Rehabilitation provider approval

Overview

An approved workplace rehabilitation provider acts as an injured workers’ independent party to communicate and negotiate with everyone involved in the worker's rehabilitation.

The main focus of the injury management process is involving all three parties (the employer, injured worker and nominated treating doctor) from the time of the accident until the worker returns to work or receives a claim settlement.

An approved rehabilitation provider:

• must be qualified to provide a rehabilitation service
• must maintain written and electronic records.

Only approved workplace rehabilitation providers can deliver vocational rehabilitation.

How to apply

Applicants must complete an Application for Approval as a Workplace Rehabilitation Provider.

We approve applications from workplace rehabilitation providers, to provide rehabilitation services within the ACT, in accordance with the Heads of Workers Compensation Authorities, Guide: Nationally Consistent Approval Framework for Workplace Rehabilitation Providers.

If the applicant is already approved in their 'home jurisdiction' they only need to complete part A of the Application for Approval as a Workplace Rehabilitation Provider to be approved in the ACT. The national system was introduced to streamline the process for providers.

Vocational rehabilitation

There are three processes involved in injury management. These are the:

• injury management program
• return to work program
• personal injury plan.

Vocational rehabilitation is organised as part of the personal injury plan and involves assessing the injured worker to provide training and other services for a sustainable return to suitable employment. It is the insurers responsibility to make sure this vocational rehabilitation will lead to employment or an increase in earnings for the injured worker.

Annual self-assessment

Approved providers must complete annual self-evaluations and may need to have an evaluation/s by an independent evaluator.
