New Managing Psychosocial Risks at work Code of Practice

From Monday 27 November, the ACT is launching a new Code of Practice for Managing Psychosocial Hazards at Work.

This Code is supported by the new Work Health and Safety Regulation 2011 which also comes into effect on Monday. These changes outline information which must be considered by persons conducting a business or undertaking (PCBUs) when preventing harm from psychosocial hazards in their workplaces.

This means that PCBUs will need to implement control measures according to the work health and safety hierarchy of controls:

  • Eliminate the hazard
  • Minimise the risk using substitution, isolation and engineering controls
  • Use administrative controls, and
  • Use personal protective equipment (PPE).

Failure to meet these requirements may lead to regulatory action.

WorkSafe ACT’s role:

WorkSafe ACT regulates the Work Health and Safety legislation. As the Regulator, we have a dedicated team of psychosocial Inspectors that:

  • Respond to worker complaints and secure compliance with legislation through regulatory actions.
  • Proactively engage with industry to provide direct advice and education and identify emerging trends.
  • Develop free educational and other supporting resources.

If you have a workplace concern, please call us on 13 22 81 Monday to Friday 8:30am - 4:30pm, Weekends & Public Holidays 9:00am - 4:30pm, or complete the Report a Workplace Concern or Issue form.
