Lift Permit Approval
Plant items, such as lifts, must be registered for use in the ACT under the Work Health and Safety Act 2011 and the Work Health and Safety Regulation 2011.
The purpose of registering an item of plant is to ensure that it is inspected by a competent person and is safe to operate. Manufacturers, importers, and suppliers must not supply plant unless the design is registered as it is an offence to use plant if the Regulation requires the plant's design to be registered and it isn’t.
Access Canberra administers Plant Item Registration and WorkSafe ACT regulates both plant item registrations, scaffolding, and lifts with the additional role of administering Lift Permit Approvals under the Scaffolding and Lifts Act 1912.
Once you have received the Plant Item Registration from Access Canberra, the PCBU is required to supply the below supporting documents to WorkSafe ACT to administer the Lift Permit Approval:
- Plant design registration certificate.
- Safe to operate declaration from the installer.
- Design verification statement, stating all tests have been completed in accordance with AS1735 & SL Act - installed to manufacturers specifications.
- As-built drawings.
To do this, create a Business Portal Profile and submit a ‘Workplace Concern’ form with the required documents.
WorkSafe ACT will only complete a desk top review of the supporting documents and supply the PCBU with a Lift Permit Approval
