Social Media Terms of Use

WorkSafe ACT’s social media terms of use for community etiquette, responding to and moderating social media comments, and your privacy.

WorkSafe ACT uses social media to engage with audiences and inform them about the latest news related to work health and safety, workers’ compensation and labour hire licensing in the ACT.

Operating hours

WorkSafe ACT’s social media accounts are monitored between 9:00am and 5:00pm, Monday to Friday.

Comments made outside these hours will receive a response within normal hours of monitoring.

Social media community standards

WorkSafe ACT hosts a social media platform on LinkedIn. The following are the WorkSafe ACT Social Media Community Standards (the Community Standards). These set out the behaviours required of its users by WorkSafe ACT. The Community Standards are additional to any user policy, or terms and conditions, imposed by the host social media platforms used by WorkSafe ACT.

WorkSafe ACT welcomes comments and posts on its social media channels. However, users, should apply common sense when doing so.

When engaging with WorkSafe ACT social media channels, you should adhere to the following Community Standards:

Include only internet addresses or links to websites and resources relevant to work health and safety

Do not post material that is misleading, deceptive, or fraudulent

Only represent your own views

Do not impersonate or falsely represent another person or organisation

Only post information and material that you have a legal right to post (for example, information and material that does not infringe the intellectual property rights of others and material that is not confidential)

Do not post information or material that is confidential or which you do not have a legal right to post (for example, material that if posted will infringe the intellectual property rights of another person

Post informative and well-researched information

Do not post defamatory information or information that is untrue

Post information that is publicly available

Do not post material identifying matters that are either the subject of current legal proceedings or that would breach a court’s non-publication order

Comply with the social media content schedule, adhering to daily limits and targets

Do not post multiple versions of your post or make excessive postings on a particular issue

Post messaging that aligns to the content calendar and our key priorities

Do not post material that is irrelevant to the topic being discussed

Post content that is relevant for WorkSafe ACT

Do not post material that advertises, offers, or promotes commercial interests

Post material with a community first lens, aimed at our key audience. Post content that is related to WorkSafe ACT

Do not post political material or content

Post responsible content that meets WorkSafe ACT’s key priorities and is factual, informative and promotes positive behaviour in the community

Do not post material encouraging conduct that may or would constitute a criminal offence or give rise to civil liability or that would otherwise violate any Australian or overseas law

Post content that relates positively to mitigating and eliminating psychosocial risks and hazards

Do not post any material that is obscene, offensive, vulgar, or violent

Post content that is general in nature, aimed at a wide audience and is factual and informative

Do not post material that incites, induces, aids, assists, promotes, causes, instructs, or permits violence, discrimination, harassment, victimisation or hatred towards others

Comply with these Community Standards

Do not post material that is likely to offend, insult, humiliate or intimidate others on the basis of any personal characteristic, including but not limited to: religion, colour, race, ethnicity, gender identity, marital or domestic status, sexual preference, age or any disability.

Do not offer personal insults against individuals or make unproven or unsupported accusations against individuals or organisations

WorkSafe ACT reserves the right to enforce these Community Standards at its discretion. WorkSafe ACT may remove any posted messages that it considers to be in breach of the Community Standards, including without consultation with the user or further review. WorkSafe ACT may also block or delete you as a user if WorkSafe ACT considers that you have breached the standards.

WorkSafe ACT may change the Community Standards at any time.

Responding to and moderating social media comments

WorkSafe ACT will endeavour to answer all posted questions as is appropriate and reasonable within the relevant forum. If an answer requires highly specific or technical consideration, WorkSafe ACT will advise to contact its office and further correspondence on the relevant forum will not proceed.

WorkSafe ACT reserves the right to remove any content that it deems unsuitable, and to block any users who severely or consistently violate these terms of use.

WorkSafe also reserves the right to change, amend, remove, or add to these terms of use as appropriate, and without notice to you.

Please note that if your comment relates to an individual claim, WorkSafe ACT reserves the right to refer your comments to relevant third parties (such as WorkSafe Inspectors) and contact you.

Your privacy

Be aware that any information you post on social media is available for the public to see. You should take care to check your individual privacy settings and the privacy policies associated with each social media platform.

WorkSafe ACT strongly recommends that you regularly check and configure the privacy settings for your profile to make sure that you know what information you are making available, and to which audience.

Please note that WorkSafe ACT may collect information you provide on social media, such as your publicly visible details (which may include your name and photo) for the purpose of monitoring, evaluating and/or improving the quality of WorkSafe ACT’s services.
