Qantas Airways Ltd

On 31 January 2014 a worker was injured when he stepped backwards out of a service door on an aircraft that he was cleaning and fell approximately 1.5 metres. The cleaner was employed by a cleaning company contracted to Qantas Airways Limited. The aircraft was parked in a maintenance hanger at Canberra airport at the time of the incident.

It was alleged by Access Canberra that Qantas Airways Limited had a safety duty under section 19 of the Work Health and Safety Act 2011, to ensure the health and safety of workers and contractors and it failed to comply with that duty, thereby exposing an individual to a risk of serious injury.

WorkSafe ACT considered a proposal for a work, health and safety undertaking from Qantas. The work, health and safety undertaking became a work, health and safety enforceable undertaking when the regulator accepted the proposed undertaking on 23 December 2015.
