Demolition Environmental Civil Contractors Pty Ltd

It was alleged by WorkSafe ACT that Demolition Environmental Civil Contractors Pty Ltd (“DECC”) contravened the Work Health and Safety Act 2011 (WHS Act), when between 11 January 2023 and 18 January 2023, DECC failed to comply with aspects of its duty under section 19(2) of the WHS Act, resulting in an alleged offence against section 32 of the WHS Act.

The incident occurred in January 2023, where demolition of concrete hobs in a Canberra Centre carpark resulted in three metal façade panels becoming dislodged from the carpark structure. This occurred in the vicinity of workers unrelated to DECC – no injuries resulted from the incident.

WorkSafe ACT considered a proposal from DECC for an enforceable undertaking. The proposal met the regulator’s general guidelines for the acceptance of WHS undertakings under the Act, and was consistent with WorkSafe ACT’s published guidance material for enforceable undertakings. The WHS Commissioner accepted the proposal on 15 May 2026.

The total financial commitment of the undertaking is $225,000. Further details are available in the PDF document below:
