Falling objects
Falling objects can be a hazard when overhead work is carried out and the fall from height of any object, substance or thing is also defined as a notifiable dangerous incident and must be notified to WorkSafe ACT.
More information can be found on the Notify web page.
PCBU’s should consider the risk of falling objects as part of their risk management plans.
If risk controls (such as protective platforms and screens) cannot guarantee that falling objects will not be a threat, the following safety measures should apply:
- a 'no access' area should be established below overhead work and all workers should be made aware
- the 'no access' area should have secure barriers in place and adequate signage to prevent access into the area
- use of a spotter where necessary
- keep people away from loads being lifted and slung loads
- secure loose material you use such as plywood, iron-sheets and off-cuts against the wind.
