Media Alert - International Workers' Memorial Day

Dear media colleagues,

Sunday 28 April 2024 is International Workers’ Memorial Day.

Workers’ Memorial Day is a time to reflect and remember the working Australians who have lost their lives and are still living with the consequences of work-related incidents and disease, that recognises the vital contribution and achievement of Australian workers to the building of this nation.

The International Trades Union Congress has set the theme for Workers' Memorial Day 2024 as the ’Impacts of climate change on occupational health and safety’.

Additionally, April 28 each year is also recognised as World Day of Safety and Health at Work. The theme for this year’s World Day is Climate risks for workers’.

UnionsACT are holding a Workers’ Memorial Day service on Monday 29 April at 9:00 am at the National Workers’ Memorial in Kings Park, Parkes ACT.

Work Health and Safety Commissioner Jacqueline Agius and ACT Minister for Industrial Relations and Workplace Safety Mick Gentleman will be attending and speaking at the ceremony.

Media representatives are invited to attend this service. The event will start at 9:00 am and run for approximately 45 minutes.
