Insurer approval

Overview

Insurance  companies wishing to provide workers compensation insurance in the ACT must be approved under the Workers Compensation Act 1951.

An employer may apply for exemption from maintaining a worker's compensation policy with an approved insurer. This is referred to as an exemption as a self-insurer.

Workers compensation enterprise reporting solution

Under the Workers Compensation Act 1951, Access Canberra administers the 'Workers compensation enterprise reporting solution’ that provides a ‘data warehouse’ for storing a wide range of workers compensation data in relation to the Territory’s private sector.

All ACT approved insurers and self insurers are required to provide Access Canberra with monthly submissions including comprehensive details of workers compensation insurance policies, claims and payment details for injured workers, and wages and premium amounts.

For more information on how to meet the reporting requirements please refer to Workers Compensation (National Insurer Data Specifications) Approved Protocols 2015 (No1).
